🌼 The Journey of The Dandelion’s Promise – Why I Wrote This Children’s Mindfulness Book
Hi, I’m Jennifer R. Reyes — a physiotherapist, creative writer, and mum of two little girls. This year, I’m finally bringing to life a dream I’ve had since childhood: publishing my first children’s book about mindfulness, The Dandelion’s Promise.
A Childhood Dream Revisited
Since I was young, I always dreamed of becoming a writer. I even applied for a journalism degree, but just before I was due to begin, I realised something: I didn’t like the idea of sitting still and writing all day. That led me to physiotherapy — a career that allowed me to move, connect, and help others. What I didn’t realise then was that this path would bring me full circle — back to writing, but in a way that felt deeply aligned.
Physio to Mum... and Back to Writer
Years later, I became a mum. As my eldest daughter grew, I searched for mindfulness books for kids that would help her understand emotions and stay grounded — but I found that many books were too instructional or abstract. They didn’t hold her attention. That’s when I had the idea to create something different: A story. A gentle, imaginative tale that brings mindfulness to life through storytelling. I wanted to write a book that children could feel immersed in — a book that would teach without teaching.
Where Mindfulness Creates Tension in Kids
In my early years as a physiotherapist, I began to notice a pattern. More and more children were coming into the clinic with recurring muscle spasms, headaches, and tension-related pain — often without a clear physical cause. What I discovered was that many of these children were dealing with stress and anxiety, and their bodies were expressing it through tight muscles and discomfort. The most effective tool? Not just stretches or posture correction — but mindfulness. Simple practices like breathing deeply, grounding through the senses, and learning to tune into their bodies made a huge difference. This sparked my passion for helping children find calm through mind-body techniques.
The Birth of The Dandelion’s Promise
The Dandelion’s Promise is a calming, magical story about being present, sensory grounding, and adventure. It’s a way for children to discover mindfulness through story — and to build lifelong tools for emotional regulation. I wrote this book for my daughters, and for every child who might need a quiet moment, grounding, and a little wonder.
